A note from the founder

Why we started IronBattleOdyssey

I spent nine years shipping games before I burned out on marketing decks that called every launch "revolutionary." IronBattleOdyssey started in 2019 as a newsletter I wrote from a café on Little Collins Street for about thirty friends. We only cover a game once we've actually finished it — every score is earned across full playthroughs, not review-event weekends. If a $110 release respects your time, we'll tell you. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too.

— Callum R., Founder & Lead Editor

How we work

Every review runs through four steps

No affiliate pressure, no early scores. Here's the process behind each verdict we publish.

Player mid-session
01

Full playthrough

We finish the campaign end-to-end — 20 to 80 hours — before a single word is written. No headlines from a two-hour preview build.

Notes and analysis
02

Frame testing

Performance capture on console and PC — frame pacing, load times, and settings that actually matter, logged and charted.

Editorial discussion
03

Two-editor sign-off

Every score is argued out by two editors. If we can't agree, the draft goes back — no rushed 9s to hit a launch window.

04

Published & revisited

We update scores after major patches — a launch verdict isn't the final word.

"The only outlet that waited to finish the game before scoring it. Saved me from a $110 pre-order I'd have regretted."

Jordan M. — Fitzroy, VIC · March 2025

"Mei's frame-pacing charts are the only performance coverage I actually trust. Clear, honest, no jargon wall."
